This past Sunday a woman, writer, and food blogger that I much admire, Jennifer Perillo, lost her husband. It was sudden and unexpected and I can’t even imagine what she is going through. But she is loved and the outpouring of support from the food blogging community has been amazing. Food bloggers, of their own accord, have organized weekly care packages to be sent to Jennie and her two young daughters. And still the outpouring of love continued and in response Jennie wrote in a heartbreaking post:
“For those asking what they can do to help my healing process, make a peanut butter pie this Friday and share it with someone you love. Then hug them like there’s no tomorrow because today is the only guarantee we can count on.”
And so we did. My husband, daughter, and I cooking together for the first time and it was wonderfully messy and imperfect full of hugs, kisses, and some scolding and a memory forever lodged in my heart.
Thank you Jennie for you grace and wonderful way of honoring Mikey reminding us to not take each other for granted.
